Educator Auditor

The Educator Auditor, working in a remote environment, will focus on identifying educational needs, creating and delivering content, and performing inpatient, outpatient and professional fee coding audits.  This role will assist as needed with new-hire onboarding quality reviews, monthly to weekly maintenance quality reviews of Excite coders and participating on external client audits.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze audit results across many audits and keep in tune to industry trends to enable identification of educational needs beneficial to the larger majority
  • Create educational content with accuracy and appropriate degree of detail for various audience levels
  • Professionally present or deliver educational material to small and large audiences in a remote environment
  • Offer up to 12 presentations yearly
  • Review and summarize AHA Coding Clinics, CPT Assistant, and other official references
  •  Manage company pre-employment coding tests to include: grading and assessing the quality of tests, updating current tests and creating new tests as needed
  • Oversee, write, and distribute company coding newsletter
  • Perform inpatient, hospital outpatient, and/or professional fee coding audits for technical and/or professional reporting
  •  Extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems (MS-DRG, APR-DRG, IPPPS, APC, RBRVS)
  •  Evaluate audit results identifying patterns, trends, and key problematic areas  while communicating specific opportunities for coder improvement initiatives
  • Audit coder’s work on a weekly and/or monthly basis and sends audit results to Excite leadership
  • Provide education and training to Excite coders for internal audits and client coders for external audits
  • Address and troubleshoot coding questions from coders
  • Refer issues to Excite leadership as appropriate
  • Identify coding risks and problems proactively and make appropriate recommendations to Excite leadership
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills by completing assignments within time constraints and calendar schedules
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with coding staff and Excite leadership
  • Keep current with new laws, regulations, and guidelines related to coding
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain professional certification(s)
  • Utilize a laptop computer in a virtual office, windows-based environment
  • Assist with additional duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must have formal HIM education with national certification (RHIA, RHIT) and/or CCS coding certification, required
  • Minimum of 5 years inpatient, outpatient, and professional fee coding experience
  • Minimum of 3 years inpatient outpatient, and professional fee auditing experience (may be in conjunction with 5 years coding experience)
  • Extensive training background in coding and reimbursement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Successful experience working independently in a remove environment
  • Proficient management skills
  • High level of competency with various encoders
